The WorldWise project aims to:
1) Raise awareness about local and global issues by:
a) providing bias-free resources and information from different cultures and societies
b) bringing people from different cultures and backgrounds together
c)encouraging questioning, discussion and creativity to find fair solutions to local and global problems
d)enabling people to recognise inequalities in power and wealth that exist locally and globally and to recognise the historical and cultural contexts out of which these inequalities developed
2) Help people see issues from diverse perspectives and recognise bias, misinformation and confusion by:
a) running / promoting activities which reveal media bias
b) providing varied sources of information on global issues
c) encouraging people to discuss issues and listen and respect each others points of view
d) helping people to notice how the information they are given effects their beliefs, opinions and stereotypes
3) Help people to understand the links between themselves and other people locally and globally by:
a) encouraging a positive understanding of the value of diversity
b) providing information about the practical ways people are linked
c) supporting people to explore their existing relationships in terms of personal, local and global links
d) supporting people to see the personal benefits of building relationships with people from other places and cultures
4) Help people achieve their potential as individuals and in their relationships with others by:
a) valuing the contributions of people we work with and their cultural heritages
b) empowering people to value themselves and each other
c) helping people to face their own demons of prejudice and oppression that hold them back
5) Help people to understand humanity’s impact on the environment by:
a) providing information and resources on environmental issues
b) engaging people in activities which promote understanding of the environment and the effects we have on it / it has on us
6) Give people the tools to act sustainably and in an environmentally friendly way by:
a) providing information and resources on practical changes people can make to their own lives which will help the environment
7) Support and encourage positive action for change by:
a) involving people as World Wise volunteers
b) signposting people to the local Volunteer Centre where they can find other volunteering activities
c) signposting people to campaigns
d) supporting groups and individuals to plan and run their own global citizenship projects
e) supporting people to create and work towards personal goals which will enable them to live more sustainable, fulfilled lives as global citizens.
